‘NFF will bear full responsibility for boycotting game’ – Libyan FA threatens

Libya Football Federation has released a statement condemning the Super Eagles’ decision to boycott their Tuesday qualifier.

The chaotic ordeal involving Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Libya has sparked widespread reactions.

Augustine Eguavoen’s men were reportedly left stranded at Al Abraq Airport for over 13 hours after their arrival ahead of a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The players and officials were denied access to accommodation, which led to the team’s decision to boycott the match against the Mediterranean Knights.

The Nigerian team have since returned to the country, after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) aligned with the players decision not to partake in the scheduled game.

The NFF has also issued a protest letter to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), calling attention to the inhumane treatment they faced.

In response, the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) released a statement condemning the NFF’s actions. The full statement reads:

STATEMENT FROM LIBYA:

The Libya Football Federation (LFF) condemns the NFF action not to play the game tomorrow.

⁠Legal Actions to be taken to preserve the right of the Libyan National Team.

⁠The LFF denounces the inappropriate behavior of the delegation, which almost prevented the Libyan delegation from playing the game last Friday, which is a violation of CAF rules.

⁠The LFF emphasized that the NFF did not cooperate regarding the match in Nigeria as they did not receive equal treatment meted to other countries, and as stipulated in regulations – resulting in them not having a fair and equal opportunity.

⁠The LFF apologizes to Libyan fans and followers and affirms that the NFF will bear full responsibility for failure to hold the match as scheduled.
