Neymar explains short-term Santos deal amid Barcelona return rumours
Neymar Jr. has revealed why he signed only a six-month contract at Santos, amid growing speculation about a potential return to Barcelona.
The 33-year-old rejoined his boyhood club on January 31, following an injury-plagued spell at Al-Hilal, where he played just seven matches before suffering a torn ACL and meniscus injury.
After another setback in November 2024, Neymar opted to return to Brazil to regain fitness and form.
After scoring in Santos’ 3-1 win over Agua Santa, Neymar explained his decision, saying:
“Let’s take it easy. Santos opened the doors for me to reacquaint myself with football, with my joy.
“I didn’t sign a long contract because I didn’t know how I was going to feel. Anything can happen.”
His father hinted at a possible contract extension, saying:
“Our project is not just for five months. We came to help Santos rebuild and find partners.”
Despite this, reports suggest Neymar aims to return to Europe next season, with Barcelona potentially considering him as an option for the left-wing position.
