“Must we have breast and yansh?” – AY laments lack of support from men
Popular Nigerian filmmaker and comedian Ayo Makun, better known as AY, has expressed frustration over the lack of support from fellow men despite his dedication to his craft.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, AY lamented that men often support women over their male counterparts, regardless of the effort put in.
He added that men struggle and put in more effort to stay relevant and fulfil their responsibilities in the entertainment industry.
“One day, men go tell man ‘wetin man do man.’ We work so hard to stay relevant and take care of our responsibilities. Must we have breasts and yansh to have the support of our fellow men?” AY wrote.
The comedian, known for his record-breaking comedy films and shows, further claimed that he is the last remaining male filmmaker in Nigeria who hasn’t quit the industry due to a lack of support.
“I am still the only man left in the business of filmmaking who is yet to give it all up,” he added, emphasizing the challenges male filmmakers face in sustaining their careers.
AY’s remarks have sparked conversations online, with fans and colleagues sharing their thoughts. Some have praised him for his resilience and consistency in the entertainment industry, while others have urged him to focus on his craft and ignore the lack of external validation.
