Muslims worldwide await moon sighting to mark Eid-il-Fitr 2025

After a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection, Muslims across the world are eagerly anticipating Eid-il-Fitr, the joyous festival that marks the end of Ramadan.

The celebration is a time for family reunions, feasting, and gratitude, but its exact date hinges on a crucial element—the sighting of the crescent moon.

Why the moon sighting matters

The Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, meaning each month begins when the new crescent moon is sighted. Eid-il-Fitr is observed on the first day of Shawwal, the month that follows Ramadan.

Once the moon is confirmed, fasting officially ends, and Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid. This tradition connects the global Muslim community through a shared religious experience.

Eid-il-Fitr 2025: Expected date in Saudi Arabia

In Saudi Arabia, moon sighting holds special significance, as its Eid announcement often influences nearby countries. As per reports, the crescent moon will be observed on the 29th day of Ramadan 1446 AH, which falls on March 29, 2025.

If the moon is sighted, Eid will be celebrated on March 30, 2025; otherwise, Ramadan will extend for another day, and Eid will be marked on March 31, 2025.

A universal spirit of celebration

Although different countries may observe Eid on different days depending on their local moon sighting reports, the spirit of the festival remains universal. It is a time for giving thanks, sharing meals, performing charitable acts, and strengthening bonds with loved ones.

As the anticipation builds, Muslims around the world eagerly await the official announcement that will usher in this blessed and joyous occasion.
