MLS: Messi becomes Inter Miami’s all-time scorer with hat-trick vs New England Revolution
Lionel Messi’s 11-minute hat trick led Inter Miami to a 6-2 victory over the New England Revolution.
The win ensured a new Major League Soccer record for most points in a single season.
With the win at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Miami finished the regular season with 74 points, surpassing the previous record of 73 set by the Revolution in 2021.
Luis Suárez played a key role in Miami’s comeback, scoring twice after they fell two goals behind.
Messi, who came off the bench in the second half, helped set up Benjamin Cremaschi’s goal before scoring three himself to become the club’s all-time leading scorer with 33 goals.
Miami also became the first MLS team to have two players score at least 20 goals in a season, with Messi and Suárez both reaching the mark.
