Mbappe addresses France snub, says it was coach Didier Deschamps’ decision

Kylian Mbappe has opened up about his prolonged absence from France games, attributing his omission to decisions made by head coach Didier Deschamps.

The Real Madrid superstar, who boasts an impressive record of 48 goals in 86 caps for France, has not featured for his country since a UEFA Nations League clash against Belgium on September 9.

Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid in the summer, acknowledged that a combination of factors led to it.

This includes his physical condition and discussions with Deschamps.

Speaking to Canal+, the 25-year-old addressed claims of waning commitment to the national team:

“My love for the French team hasn’t changed. Yes, I miss it, because it’s been a long time since I’ve been there.

“In September, I asked the coach not to go. I had just arrived in Madrid and had a super short vacation.

“The coach insisted that I come, but it didn’t go very well. After that, in October, I was injured. The coach told me it was better not to take me.

“Then there was November, but I can’t say why I wasn’t called up. It’s the coach’s decision, and I respect it. He’s the boss.”

Deschamps has remained tight-lipped about the reasons behind Mbappe’s absence but has insisted that the forward remains in his plans.

With no international matches scheduled until March 2025, Mbappe will have ample time to focus on his performances for Real Madrid.
