Manchester United reportedly target shock move for Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a surprising move for Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell to provide competition for Luke Shaw.
According to Sun Sports, this potential transfer would see Chilwell and Shaw, both fighting for the starting spot under Erik ten Hag.
Despite both players facing injury challenges last season, Shaw was preferred by England manager Gareth Southgate for the Euro 2024 squad over Chilwell.
Shaw, 28, has been out since February due to a hamstring injury but made a comeback for England in their quarter-final victory over Switzerland, coming on in the 78th minute.
Chilwell, 27, missed Chelsea’s final seven games of the season with a knee injury, though he was fit enough for the bench in their penultimate match against Brighton.
Last season, under Mauricio Pochettino, Chilwell was appointed vice-captain of Chelsea but managed only 13 Premier League appearances and 21 games overall due to fitness issues.
Chelsea are reportedly open to letting Chilwell go if the right offer comes along.
