Manchester City claim 5th trophy in 2023, thrash Fluminense 4-0 to win Club World Cup

Manchester City thrashed Fluminense4-0 to win the Club World Cup, courtesy of standout performances from Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden.

The win marked City’s debut in the competition, having won the Champions League last season.

In the semi-finals, City defeated Urawa Red Diamonds 3-0, setting up the final showdown with Fluminense, the Copa Libertadores champions, who fielded former Real Madrid star Marcelo in their lineup.

City’s quick start saw Alvarez capitalize on a defensive error just 40 seconds into the game, scoring his ninth goal of the season across all competitions.

Erling Haaland’s absence due to FIFA regulations led to Alvarez taking on City’s attack against Fluminense.

Meanwhile, Guardiola’s men doubled their lead in the 27th minute when Foden’s shot deflected off Nino and found the back of the net, although it counted as an own goal.

Not long into the second half , Foden added his name to the scoresheet, and Alvarez sealed the victory with his second goal.
