Man United agree deal with Dan Ashworth as new sporting director, per Ornstein

Manchester United have reportedly reached agreement with Newcastle United to appoint Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director.

Football journalist David Ornstein reveals the appointment follows a protracted negotiation period over compensation, which has now been resolved.

Ashworth, 53, who was on gardening leave for over four months, is expected to resume his role immediately.

He is tasked with overseeing football performance, recruitment, and operations at Old Trafford.

Ornstein reports that Technical director Jason Wilcox will report directly to Ashworth, who will, in turn, report to Sir Dave Brailsford, the individual overseeing the review of Manchester United’s football operations.

Ashworth’s move comes after John Murtough stepped down as football director in April after a decade of service.

Ashworth joined Newcastle United in February 2022 from Brighton, where he served as technical director since 2019.
