Man recounts how mysterious phone call silenced his cousin forever

A Nigerian man recounts a strange incident in which his cousin went silent forever after she answered a call.

The incident was shared on X by a netizen identified as @xygort who shared the story in response to a tweet about how people’s life can change forever.

According to @xygort, his cousin had picked up a call 11 years ago and suddenly shouted, which prompted her mother to rush out to find out what had happened.

He stated that after the call, the sister was unable to utter a single word again from that day on till she passed the following year.

“Eleven years ago, my cousin answered a phone call and never uttered a single word again. Nothing happened to her physically. Before then, she was even discussing with her mother. In vain, we hoped that she’ll break free from whatever it was and tell us what she heard on the call.

But sadly in 2014, she passed. Her death came a year after that phone call. Nobody knows who called her. Not to talk of the content of the call. Once, there was a rumour going around that a certain number was calling people, and if you answered the call, you’ll become possessed.

We hoped that it was a spiritual thing so we took her to several churches, but no help came. I know another man in the same neighbourhood who they said answered the call and in the weeks that followed, he sold off his Mazda car and landed properties in preparation for his death.

My cousin’s call came on a Sunday evening. She was having dinner when her phone rang. Unlike how it is in some families, in their house, they do not gather at a table to eat dinner together. Everybody simply eats whenever they’re hungry. Hence, she was sitting alone on the table.

Her mother said she was in the bathroom when she heard her shout, and then she ran out, trying to find out what happened. She stood, watching her on the call, hoping she’d hang up and tell her what happened, but after that call, she becam”
