Man petitions COAS after assault by soldiers

Demands compensation of N150 million

A man, identified as Vershima Mker, has petitioned the Chief of Army Staff, demanding justice after being brutalized by soldiers.

The incident reportedly happened on 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja, when the soldiers had forcefully opened the victim’s car, and assaulted the victim and his fiancee.

The victims, Vershima Mker and Miss Lami Jennifer Iorvihi through their solicitors, Tom Uja & Co., have petitioned the Chief of Army Staff, calling for the immediate dismissal of Major General G.S. Mohammed and Corporal A. Abubakar, alongside a compensation claim of N150 million.

The petition disclosed that the victims were on a visit to their friends and family, in preparation for their upcoming wedding.

It added that the General and his convoy had arrived, lamenting that despite the fact that the road had limited space, it forced it’s way through.

It also noted that Mker and Iorvihi were dragged out of their vehicles, beaten and wounded and also detained at a police station without cause.

Our clients were merely visiting relatives when the convoy, led by Major General G.S. Mohammed, accosted them. The brutality they suffered is unacceptable, and we demand accountability,” the letter reads.

This has however led to a public outrage as the public have expressed concern over the incessant use of force by the military.
