Man faints because of low sugar after avoiding soda for a year
A Nigerian man reportedly fainted and was rushed to the hospital after refusing to drink soda for an entire year.
This was shared in a post on X, formerly Twitter, by a friend of the man involved.
The incident came to light after a user posted about their soda consumption, revealing that they had only consumed four bottles of soda over the past year and expressed their intent to repeat this feat.
In response, the man quoted the post and shared the story of his friend, who fainted after avoiding soda for a year.
He wrote: “My friend did this ‘no soda’ thing. Baba fainted because of low sugar. The doctor said he should be taking soda.”
The post revealed that the friend was eventually advised by the doctor to start consuming soda.
As the story spread online, concerned individuals flooded the comment section to share their thoughts on the unusual incident.

@BAMKY: “The fact they are using soda to urgently fix his blood sugar level tells you how soda works and how detrimental it could be to your health. A little research never hurt.”
@busayo9ja: “No good doctor should advice soda. Aside sugar, they are other chemical substance in soda drinks that shouldn’t be in your body. If what he needs is sugar, they are other ways to get it, except soda.”
@DayoOjo: “This thing is possible o. I had to go and rush half bottle of coke the other day. Aint easy!”
@iam_dansadau: “Lol jot taking sọdá didn’t cause that. He was probably not eating enough and collapse due to hypoglycemia or there is an underlying ailment.”
@giftthecreator: “@iam_dansadau: “Moderation is everything plus was the person getting enough natural sugar from food and fruits.”
@iam_dansadau: “Not taking soda alone cannot cause low blood sugar because other nutritions like carbohydrate e.g rice, yam, bread e.t.c contain sugar. Soda was best option coz it could raise his sugar level fast at that moment.”
