Man City edge Man Utd in dramatic Community Shield shootout

Manchester City claimed their first silverware of the season, beating Manchester United 7-6 on penalties in the Community Shield.

This happened after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Manuel Akanji secured the win for City after United’s Jonny Evans missed his decisive spot-kick.

United seemed poised for victory when Alejandro Garnacho broke the deadlock with just eight minutes left, continuing his impressive form from the FA Cup final.

However, City’s substitute Bernardo Silva headed an equalizer in the 89th minute, pushing the match to a tense penalty shootout.

The drama intensified as Silva’s initial penalty was saved by Andre Onana, giving United the upper hand.

City’s goalkeeper, Ederson, then kept his team alive by converting his penalty.

Evans, under pressure, sent his penalty over the bar, allowing Akanji to coolly finish the job for City.

Despite the loss, United’s performance, especially in the second half, offered encouragement for Erik Ten Hag’s side as they prepare for the upcoming season.

On the other hand, City, while victorious, were far from their best, with United dominating large portions of the match.
