Man City 0-4 Tottenham: Maddison shines as Spurs humble Guardiola’s side

Tottenham stunned Manchester City with a dominant 4-0 win at the Etihad, piling misery on Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola has now suffered his fifth consecutive defeat for the first time in his managerial career.

James Maddison marked his 28th birthday with a sensational brace, setting the tone for Spurs’ emphatic win.

The match started with high expectations for City, buoyed by Guardiola’s recent contract extension and Rodri’s Ballon d’Or title.

However, Spurs had other plans, taking the lead in the 13th minute when Dejan Kulusevski’s perfect cross found Maddison, who volleyed past Ederson.

Seven minutes later, Maddison capitalized on Josko Gvardiol’s errant pass, combining with Son Heung-min before coolly finishing to double the visitors’ advantage.

City struggled to find their grasp despite Erling Haaland’s early opportunities, including a shot deflected wide and a second-half effort that struck the crossbar.

Spurs’ defensive strength and counterattacking ability left the hosts frustrated throughout.

Pedro Porro added a third in the 52nd minute, capping a swift break orchestrated by Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke.

Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson combined in stoppage time for Spurs’ fourth, sealing City’s worst home defeat since moving to the Etihad Stadium.
