Luis Enrique declares PSG’s victory over Liverpool as ‘only the start’
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has expressed confidence in his team’s future after their dramatic penalty shootout victory over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Speaking to Canal Plus, the Spaniard emphasized that PSG’s journey is just beginning, despite overcoming a historic Anfield challenge.
“We showed that we are a real team. Is this team at its maximum? No. It’s only the start. Our mentality is to keep improving,” Enrique stated.
PSG, who had dominated the first leg but lost due to Alisson’s heroics and a late Harvey Elliott winner, managed to level the tie through Ousmane Dembélé before securing their place in the quarter-finals via a flawless penalty shootout performance.
Enrique acknowledged Liverpool’s quality, stating: “It was a very difficult match. Liverpool are a top team, and keeping the ball was a challenge.
“But with our mentality and personality—especially Gigio [Donnarumma]—we won.”
With Gianluigi Donnarumma’s crucial penalty saves ensuring PSG’s progression, the Parisiens will now set their sights on the quarter-finals.
