Liverpool reportedly offer captain Virgil van Dijk to Atletico Madrid
Liverpool have reportedly offered their captain Virgil van Dijk to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
The Dutch defender could leave Anfield during the summer transfer window as the club looks to start a new era following the departure of manager Jurgen Klopp.
According to Football365, Liverpool are willing to part ways with the Netherlands international.
The 33-year-old has been instrumental in the team’s success since joining from Southampton in January 2018 for £75 million.
Despite Van Dijk’s incredible talent, Atletico Madrid are reportedly uninterested in acquiring him.
The Spanish club are said to be focusing on players with lower profiles and wages to better manage their finances.
Van Dijk currently earns £220,000 per week, excluding bonuses, making him a costly signing.
Van Dijk’s contract with Liverpool runs until the summer of 2025.
So far, he has made 270 appearances for the Reds, scored 23 goals, and provided 12 assists.
