Ligue 1: PSG signs goalkeeper Arnau Tenas from Barcelona
Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have completed the signing of former Barcelona goalkeeper Arnau Tenas.
PSG have been in the market for a new goalkeeper after Sergio Rico suffered a life-threatening injury during a horse-riding session this year.
The 22-year-old began his career with Barcelona and was a key player for Barcelona B over the past two seasons. Tenas however failed to make a senior appearance.
He has seen success at the youth level with Spain. He helped his country get to the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2019 and was a key player as they were runners up in this year’s UEFA European under-21 Championship, losing out to England.
Commenting on his move to PSG, Arnau Tenas said;
“First and foremost for what it is. It’s a great club, as are the people who are part of it. I wanted to be part of this project, which is global in its nature. I’m very happy to be here.
“I already knew [coach Luis Enrique] from the past. I played for him with the national team. It’s true that I know him a little, but everyone knows that he is a top coach!”
Announcing their new signing, PSG said in a statement;
“Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the signing of Arnau Tenas. The 22-year-old goalkeeper has signed a contract until 2026 with the club.
“Born in Vic in the province of Barcelona in Spain in May 2001, Arnau Tenas joined FC Barcelona in 2010 to begin his training there.
“The promising goalkeeper has risen through the ranks to establish himself as a part of the Barca reserve team, of which he was the captain during last season. From the 2020-2021 season, he was regularly called up to the first team.”
The 22-year-old Spaniard is now set to take on the role of Gianluigi Donnarumma’s understudy, with PSG looking to offload Keylor Navas who has returned from loan to English club Nottingham and Sergio Rico recovering from the traumatic injury he suffered.
