Leicester break Manchester City record with Championship title victory

Leicester City sealed the Championship title with a 3-0 win over Preston North End on Monday night, marking a remarkable return to the Premier League.

Recall the Foxes qualified for Premier League football last Friday following Leeds’ defeat at QPR.

The result of Leeds game with QPR gave Leicester the needed edge going into the Monday night encounter where they claimed the Championship crown with a flawless win.

Club icon Jamie Vardy led the charge with a brace, supported by Kasey McAteer’s close-range finish, as Leicester cruised to a stress-free victory in what has been a troubling campaign.

Despite facing allegations of breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules, Leicester’s joyous moment marks their return to the Premier League after suffering relegation last season.

The result sees Leicester soar seven points clear at the top of the Championship table, outpacing Leeds and Ipswich, who are level on points but have fewer games remaining.

The win also marks Leicester’s eighth Championship title, beating Manchester City’s tally in the English second tier competition.

The Foxes, with 97 points in the league, will face Blackburn Rovers, where they will hope to reach the milestone of 100 points, and lift the Championship trophy in front of their fans at the King Power Stadium.
