Lazio President calls for third institution in Serie A after three red cards against Milan
Lazio President Claudio Lotito has criticized the officiating in his team’s Friday clash against Milan, where Lazio received three red cards.
Lotito described the defeat as “forced” and suggested that Serie A needs a “third institution” to judge such incidents.
Lotito was particularly unhappy with referee Marco Di Bello’s decisions during the game that saw them lose 1-0 at home.
He highlighted two incidents, where Mike Maignan collided with Taty Castellanos in the penalty area and Luca Pellegrini received a second yellow card for a challenge on Christian Pulisic.
The situation escalated in stoppage time when Adam Marusic was sent off for dissent, and Matteo Guendouzi received a red card for a reaction foul on Pulisic.
Lotito argued that these decisions showed the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) is not able to guarantee reliability and called for an independent body to oversee such incidents.
“When you break the law, there is an institution to judge. In my view, today we went beyond the red line.
“The club will make its voice heard in the right places for what everybody saw,” he said
Lazio is the first Serie A team since 2012 to receive three red cards in a single match, after the Palermo incident against Bologna.
