Lady seeks help as police arrest her friend on her way home from work, seize her cash, demand ₦25k bail
A Nigerian lady is calling for help after her friend was arrested by police in Ketu on her way home from work without any explanation.
The incident, which she shared in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), details how her friend was slapped, forced into a police car, and had all her belongings taken.
The officers also demanded N25,000 for her release.
In her post, the woman explained that her friend was waiting for her ride when the police approached, ordered her into their car, and slapped her when she refused.
She was then taken to the station, where the police confiscated her phone and demanded bail money.
Her statement read: “Please, I need help. My colleague was arrested on her way home from work. She was waiting for her ride when the police came and ordered her into the car.”
“She refused, and they slapped her and took her to the station. They’re now taking her phone and live location. Please, she needs help. I think she’s at Ketu police station.”
In a later post she wrote: “Thanks everyone. She has been released. She’s on her way home. They took all the cash she had on her and collected 25k for bail..”
As the post went viral, concerned individuals flooded the comment section, expressing their support and offering advice.

@justdaray: “This was me as a teenager in 2003/04. I was inside danfo, reaching my bus stop. Bariga officers were raiding a house and shooting sporadically, flagged and emptied my bus. I was at the extreme back, they didn’t let me out. Was in cell for 5+ hrs, was beaten by thugs inside.”
@bevilaqua_ty: “From the beginning of this year till now, I cant count the numbers of “pls help, Nigerian police…” and yet no solution, 2025 is here again, Nigerians are going into a new year preparing for more “pls help, Nigerian police…” shouldn’t something be done? We are not ready.”
@toofighting: “I can’t even imagine the ordeal a female citizen in police custody, in this manner, goes through in terms of their personal safety. I have heard quite a few stories.”
@mikolosticks: “We are in trouble in this country. 😓😓😓😥 Abi which kind thing be this. You can’t even walk, drive or move around in peace as a youth. The police will label you criminal for no particular reason other than extortion.”
@AlfredUMicheal1: “Speaking from experience they’ll release her this morning and she’ll pay maybe 10k to 20k for bail ,she should just pay it and get out of there abeg , my experience was really bad with that ketu police. Still can’t stay out past 6pm I get jumpy when I see the police (ptsd).”
@patoski4life: “Nigeria police will never beat the allegations. They don’t even care.”
