Lady arrested for throwing 10-month-old baby into river over societal mockery

The Delta State Police Command apprehends a young mother accused of throwing her 10-month-old baby into a river in Warri.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed the shocking incident to journalists in Warri.

According to SP Edafe, the woman admitted to the act, explaining that she was driven to extreme action due to persistent abuse and shaming from friends and acquaintances. She claimed they mocked her for having a child out of wedlock, pressuring her emotionally.

“When I asked her why she did it, she said her friends and other women abuse and shame her that the child does not have a father, and that’s the reason she threw the baby away,” SP Edafe revealed.

The police spokesperson condemned the act, emphasizing that such treatment from society is no excuse for harming a child.

“That’s not a justification for her action, but we should also be mindful of what we say to people,” he urged, highlighting the importance of being considerate to others to avoid pushing them to despair.

The police have launched further investigations into the incident as they work to determine the full details surrounding the tragic event.
