La Liga: Sergino Dest joins PSV on loan from Barcelona
PSV Eindhoven have completed the signing of Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest on a season-long loan deal.
The 22-year-old United States international, who was born in the Netherlands and rose to prominence on the books at Ajax, spent last season out on loan with AC Milan, where he managed just eight Serie A appearances.
Dest returned from a disappointing loan spell at AC Milan and was given an opportunity to turn things around at Barcelona during pre-season. But that was not to be and soon it became clear that he would be on the move again.
Negotiations with PSV ramped up over the weekend and although OGC Nice and two more clubs were said to be interested, 22-year-old Sergino Dest signed for the Eredivisie outfit on a loan deal with a purchase option, which is said to be worth around €10 million.
Speaking to the PSV website, Dest said;
“PSV were in touch with me every day and expressed a keen desire to get me on board, which was a good feeling.
“And on top of that, I like the style of football they play at PSV. I think it suits me very well. I return to the Netherlands. I’m still the same player but I’ve gained a lot of experience and I’ve hopefully acquired a higher efficiency. I can’t wait to make my debut.”
Dest, whose Barcelona contract expires next year leaves Catalonia with three goals and four assists under his belt from 72 matches, as well as one Copa del Rey title from the 2020-21 season.
Now that the 22-year-old has been moved on, Barcelona are expected to finalise a deal to sign Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo, and a loan move has supposedly been agreed in principle.
