Kano state government conducts mass wedding for 1,800 couples, gifts them cash, food, furniture
The Kano state government conducted a mass wedding ceremony on Saturday, October 14, uniting 1800 couples in holy matrimony.
This remarkable event aimed to provide support and relief to primarily widows and divorcees who found themselves in challenging circumstances.
The wedding ceremony was officiated by Islamic clerics.
As part of the mass wedding plan, the state government generously contributed nearly N50,000 in dowry on behalf of each groom to their bride, ensuring that financial constraints did not hinder the solemnization of the unions.
In addition to this financial support, the state provided the newlyweds with essential gifts, including a bed, food, and clothing.
These gifts were intended to help the couples start their new lives with dignity and security.
However, a unique provision attached to these gifts is that the couples are required to repay them to the state government in the unfortunate event of a divorce.
