Julian Alvarez reportedly rejects Man City’s new deal, requests to leave

Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez has reportedly requested to leave the club this summer after rejecting a new contract offer.

According to El Chiringuito, the 24-year-old Argentine is demanding the club set a reasonable transfer value for potential buyers.

Alvarez, who joined City in January 2022 but finished the season with River Plate, has been a key player for the side.

He contributed to City’s treble-winning campaign two seasons ago and helped secure the Premier League title last season.

Despite his success, Alvarez has often played a supporting role to star striker Erling Haaland.

In his time at Manchester City, Alvarez has scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists in 103 appearances, many of which were off the bench.

The new contract Alvarez turned down included improved terms and a one-year extension, which would have kept him at the club until 2028.

Despite this, Alvarez appears ready to seek a new challenge and has asked City to facilitate his departure by setting a “logical” asking price.

Reports last month indicated that Manchester City had already rejected an approach from Atletico Madrid for Alvarez.
