Judgement Day: Tribunal strikes out suit seeking disqualification of VP Shettima
Presidential Election Tribunal has dismissed the Allied Peoples Movement calling for the disqualification of Kashim Shettima‘s dual nomination.
The party had maintained that Tinubu’s selection of Kashim Shettima as his vice-presidential candidate for the election was an improper use of Tinubu’s sponsorship by the All Progressives Congress, APC.
When Shettima accepted the nomination for vice president on July 14, the opposition party asserted that he was still the APC candidate for the Borno Central Senatorial District.
However, on Wednesday, September 6, the PEPT ruled that the issue was pre-election-related and that it lacked jurisdiction to be heard. The decision was read by Justice Haruna Tsammani, the panel’s chairperson.
The court further determined that APM lacked standing to bring claims involving the nomination and sponsorship of Shettima.
