Josh Acheampong commits to Chelsea with new long-term contract until 2029
Chelsea have secured the future of 18-year-old defender Josh Acheampong, who has agreed to a new four-and-a-half-year contract until 2029.
David Ornstein of The Athletic confirmed the news on Wednesday.
The agreement puts an end to speculation over Acheampong’s future, amid reported interest from European giants Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain.
The defender had been sidelined from Chelsea’s first team during protracted negotiations, with his previous contract set to expire in the summer of 2026.
Recall Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, a strong advocate of integrating young talent into the senior squad, expressed his admiration for Acheampong last week.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Conference League clash with FC Astana, Maresca said:
“The club loves Josh, I love Josh, and we were working to find an agreement. We were close, and now it’s done.”
The youngster, who impressed during his start against FC Astana, is expected to feature again in Thursday’s match against Shamrock Rovers.
