Jim Ratcliffe backs Ruben Amorim despite Manchester United’s struggles

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reaffirmed his confidence in head coach Ruben Amorim, despite the club’s struggles.

Since Amorim took charge four months ago, United have managed just 11 wins in 26 matches, leaving them 14th in the league with 34 points from 28 games.

However, Ratcliffe remains adamant that Amorim is the right man for the job.

In an interview with The Times, Ratcliffe defended the Portuguese coach, emphasizing the challenges he has faced, including a depleted squad due to injuries.

“I think he’s done a great job in the circumstances, frankly, with the squad that he’s had available.

“The fact he came in mid-season… Everybody expects miracles overnight. It’s not the way, not real life in my view.”

The British billionaire highlighted the absence of key players like Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, which has significantly hindered United’s progress.

Despite acknowledging that Amorim is “not perfect”, Ratcliffe praised his commitment and work ethic, revealing a lighthearted exchange between them:

“I sit down and have a cup of coffee with him and tell him where it’s going wrong, and he tells me to ‘f** off.’ I like him.”*

Ratcliffe also addressed concerns over player wages and cost-cutting measures, admitting that some players at United are overpaid.

While United’s season has been disappointing, Ratcliffe remains confident that Amorim can steer the club back to success with time and the right squad.
