J.J. Omojuwa denies business loan to man who spent N1.7M on wedding

Media personality J.J. Omojuwa shares an encounter with a man who requested a loan of ₦300,000 to start a business after having a lavish wedding.

The man’s financial decisions, as revealed during their conversation in a post shared on the X platform, led Omojuwa to decline the request.

In his post, Omojuwa asked the man how much he had spent on his wedding, which took place the previous year. The man admitted to spending ₦1.7 million on the ceremony despite earning a fixed annual salary of ₦720,000.

“Someone comes to me, wants to loan ₦300k to set up his wife for a POS business. Ok. Sounds good. I ask, how much did it cost you to do your wedding last year? He said ₦1.7m. Ok. How much do you earn per year? ₦720k/year fixed. Cool. So you used your salary for over 2 years to do your wedding ceremony?” Omojuwa wrote.

When the man justified his decision by stating that it was customary in his village, Omojuwa responded pointedly, asking, “The people that don’t have the money, didn’t do it, and are married, where are they buried?”

The man reportedly fell silent, and Omojuwa concluded his post by remarking, “You see, you are trying to punish me for your irresponsibility. Poverty is sometimes self-explanatory.”
