Ivan Toney to earn £400,000 per week in Al-Ahli after tax
Ivan Toney’s move to Al-Ahli on deadline day will see him earn up to £1 million per week when bonuses are included.
Toney, 28, signed a four-year deal with Al-Ahli, where his basic pay is reportedly around £400,000 per week after tax.
Performance-related bonuses could push his earnings towards £500,000 weekly.
To match this take-home pay in the UK, Toney would need to earn close to £1 million per week before taxes.
The move marks a dramatic pay rise for Toney, who was earning under £50,000 a week at Brentford, where he had played for four seasons since joining from Peterborough United.
The £40 million transfer makes him one of the highest-paid English footballers.
Toney’s move to Al-Ahli was nearly dropped, as the Saudi club was also in negotiations with Napoli for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
However, a last-minute agreement with Brentford ensured Toney’s transfer went through.
With his contract at Brentford set to expire at the end of the season, Toney risked being stuck at the club if the deal had fallen through.
His new adventure in Saudi Arabia will see him join the likes of Roberto Firmino and Édouard Mendy at Al-Ahli.
Toney’s debut in the Saudi Pro League is expected after the international break, where his first opponent will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.
