Ivan Toney scores on Premier League return, hints at Brentford stay
Ivan Toney made a remarkable return to the Brentford side, scoring just 19 minutes into his comeback match against Nottingham Forest.
The striker, who recently served an eight-match ban for betting offenses, was named captain for the game.
After an early goal from Nottingham Forest, Toney quickly responded by scoring a sensational free kick from around 20 yards out.
This marked his third free-kick goal in the Premier League since the summer of 2023, putting him joint-top alongside James Ward-Prowse.
As Toney celebrated with the fans and embraced the coaching staff, he made a gesture suggesting his commitment to Brentford.
He pointed to his chest and then to the pitch, probably indicating his intention to stay with the club. Additionally, he held up a shirt with the message “Thank you Uncle Brian.”
Meanwhile, Toney’s goal was followed by two more by Ben Mee and Neal Maupay. However, Nottingham didn’t go down without a fight.
Their resilience saw them put two across, courtesy of Danilo Oliveira and Chris Wood, bringing the Premier League clash to 3-2.
