Italian FA confirms Spalletti to stay as coach despite Euro 2024 exit
FIGC President Gabriele Gravina has confirmed that Luciano Spalletti will remain as head coach of Italy’s national team.
This comes despite their early exit from Euro 2024 at the round of 16.
The Italian federation has expressed its confidence in Spalletti, who has been in his role for less than a year.
Addressing the media from the national team’s training base in Iserlohn, Germany, Gravina emphasized the federation’s commitment to Spalletti.
“We have nothing to hide, but we must continue to take responsibility.
“There was a long chat with the coach yesterday, and I think that it is unthinkable to solve the problems by abandoning a multi-year project after eight to nine months,” he explained.
Gravina also noted the importance of stability and trust in their ongoing project.
“Central to our project is a coach who has been here for nine to ten months, who has not always had all the players available.
“Our trust has to work as there is already a new challenge in 60 days’ time,” he added.
On September 6, Italy will face France in the Nations League.
