‘It was easier to play football than what I do today’ – Zlatan Ibrahimovic admits
Zlatan Ibrahimovic admits that transitioning from a football career to his current role as an advisor for AC Milan has been more challenging than playing on the pitch.
Speaking during an interview with CBS Mornings alongside Christian Pulisic, Ibrahimovic shared insights into his new career path.
Ibrahimovic, who retired in 2023, was appointed as an advisor for Red Bird last December.
When asked about the differences between his past and present roles, he admitted, “I can say it was easier to play football than do what I do today.
“I am learning. I am humble. It’s a different angle from what I was used to, but I have good people around me.”
The veteran striker elaborated on the difficulties he faces, particularly the lack of direct influence over the game.
“As long as they win, it’s okay; the problem is when they start to lose,” he said with a smile.
“The issue is that I cannot influence the game like I used to. You have to transform your mentality, mood, and experience to other players,” he added.
Known for his physical and mental strength, Ibrahimovic continues to apply this strength in his post-playing career. “Many ask me if I am acting, but no. What you see is what you get. Where I come from, it is important to be confident,” he explained.
Ibrahimovic aims to instill this mentality in young Milan players. “I believe in discipline and hard work. At an early age, you prepare the mental part for when they’ll get to the big stage.
“Either you are eaten, or you eat,” he said. He emphasized the importance of balance and experience, noting, “With young players, you need to push them.”
Throughout his illustrious career, Ibrahimovic won five Serie A titles and scored 156 goals in 283 games in Italy’s topflight.
