Inter beat 10-Man Napoli to clinch Italian Super Cup
Inter secured a 1-0 victory against 10-man Napoli to win the Italian Super Cup, thanks to a late strike from Lautaro Martinez.
The match which saw Giovanni Simeone sent off for Napoli in the second half, marked Inter’s third consecutive victory in the competition.
The game, played in the new Final Four format, pitted the Serie A and Coppa Italia title holders against each other.
Despite missing key players like Alessandro Bastoni and Juan Cuadrado due to injury, Inter managed to claim the victory.
Napoli, on the other hand, had to cope without Victor Osimhen, Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa, Natan, Mathias Olivera, among other in the starting lineup.
The first half saw both teams creating chances, with Federico Dimarco’s volley narrowly missing the target for Inter and Hakan Calhanoglu testing the Napoli goalkeeper.
Lautaro Martinez also thought he had scored for Inter earlier, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
In the second half, Napoli’s Simeone received a second yellow card, reducing his team to 10 men. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Napoli’s defense remained strong.
However, Inter finally found their breakthrough in stoppage time, with Lautaro Martinez converting from close range after a well-worked move involving Alexis Sanchez and Benjamin Pavard.
