Ibadan Stampede: Olori Naomi lands in hospital following arrest

The ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife, Olori Naomi lands in the hospital following her arrest over the stampede tragedy at her charity event in Ibadan.

The event, reportedly organized by Prophetess Naomi Silekunola and Oriyomi Hamzat, an Ibadan-based broadcaster, had been planned for 5,000 children but saw over 7,500 attendees, leading to chaos.

The incident, which occurred due to overcrowding at the venue left six others injured and 35 children dead.

In the aftermath, Naomi was arrested but reportedly collapsed on Friday. She, along with Hamzat, was rushed to the Police Hospital in Eleyele for medical care.

A senior hospital official confirmed their admission, stating, “Both of them are currently at the hospital. But I can’t give further details as the police have secured the premises.”

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun is said to have assumed control of the investigation into the tragic stampede.

This development comes amid public outrage and calls for accountability, as authorities seek to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal stampede.
