Ibadan Stampede: Court grants Queen Naomi N10million bail
An Oyo State High Court, has granted a N10million bail to ex-queen of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, following the Ibadan stampede.
Justice K.B Olawoyin gave the ruling on Monday, noting that the bail also applies to the Ibadan-based media personality, Oriyomi Hamzat and the Principal of Islamic High School, Abdulahi Fasasi.
The Judge gave five conditions for the bail, including N10 million and two sureties who must submit landed documents within the court’s jurisdiction.
On January 10, 2025, the state filed an eight-count charge of murder, manslaughter, and criminal negligence against Naomi Silekunola, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife; Oriyomi Hamzat, the proprietor of an Ibadan-based radio station; and Abdulahi Fasasi, the principal of the school.
Recall that the trio were arrested and charged to court after a stampede in an event organized by Naomi, killed 35 children and hospitalized six others on the 18th of December 2024.
