I will not stay as long as Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger did because of a contract – Guardiola
Pep Guardiola has hinted at not holding tenaciously to his new contract with Manchester City which he described as “just a piece of paper”.
The Spanish coach who has delivered four Premier League titles at Etihad, signed a new deal in November 2022 which would see him stay at the club till 2025.
Speaking ahead of a Premier League match with Chelsea on Thursday, January 5, Guardiola said he won’t stay at Manchester City as long as Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger did at Manchester United and Arsenal respectively, because of a contract.
He told reporters;
“The moment I feel something is wrong, I will resign or not renew my contract. I will not stay as [Sir Alex] Ferguson or [Arsene] Wenger did. The contract is just a piece of paper. I extended my commitment to the club because I feel the team can still do well under my leadership. In the end, it’s all about the results. If we get tired of each other, I’m not going to stay until the end because of the contract.”
