“I take full responsibility for the defeat” – Silva apologizes to Chelsea fans after Newcastle loss
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has taken full responsibility for the Blues humiliating 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday.
Newcastle delivered a sensational performance against the West Londoners during the encounter, scoring two goals in 90 seconds.
The match also saw Chelsea captain Reece James pick two yellow cards that amounted to a red, reducing Chelsea to 10 men.
But Silva in a post-match interview, has begged Chelsea fans to forgive him and the entire team for putting up an underwhelming performance against the Magpies.
“I’m devastated. It wasn’t a good day for us. I would like to apologize to everyone for the defeat, especially to my teammates who believe in me and support me every day.
“I take full responsibility. Let’s gather strength and come back stronger,” he added.
Reacting to Silva’s apology, some Chelsea fans on X encouraged him, recalling how much he has helped the team before now.
One said, “You’ve got no need to apologise for making those mistakes, you’ve saved the team so many times. We didn’t do enough as a team to save you today,,, you’re still our leader and legend. We love you.”
He also had the support of another who said, “To err is human to forgive is divine
We love you Thiago
Regardless.”
