“I sold bus tickets and food after running away from home” – Oxlade
Nigerian singer and songwriter Oxlade has recounted how he sold tickets and food as a source of living after running away from home.
According to Oxlade, he run away from home to pursue his music career and had to sell bus tickets—a job of motor park touts, popularly called “agbero.”
During an interview, Oxlade disclosed that his father who is a lecturer at a university never supported his music career.
He said: “Honestly, he [my dad] was indifferent at first. But my stubbornness and consistency paid off [laughs].
“I ran away from the house at some point in my life to pursue music personally. And I had to do all sorts of stuff to survive. Selling bus tickets and selling foods at parties.”
Advising the youth, the artist said, “if you can survive in Surulere, you can survive anywhere.”
