How my mum encouraged my sister to divorce her husband – Lady

A young Nigerian lady recounts how her mum facilitated the divorce of her sister over issues regarding her husband’s request to quit her job.

This came following a debate struck an X user on how women compromise their careers and education to support their men/husbands.

In her words;

“Women will decide to stay in Nigeria because of man. Pick universities because of man. Stay in a man’s house during law school, choose nysc state because of man.

Have you ever sat down to ask yourself why? Why are you making such heavy decisions for a man?

Why must you bend? Why must your own education or career suffer for a man? You don’t love yourself? Can you please be selfish???”

Replying to the post, a user @KhadijaGarba19 buttressed the claim by narrating her sister’s fate as a married woman.

According to Khadija, her sister’s husband was against education and chasing careers. Her mum swung in when the man ordered his wife to quit her job and be a full housewife.

“When my sister wanted getting married, there was a verbal agreement that she’ll further her education & also work between my family and the said man. 🫠

Few months into marriage, she got Msc form & started chasing admission.😆

When she got the admission, this man said “NO!” 😣😵‍💫

My Mom pacified my sister since it’s second degree and that she should wait til atleast a year. 🥲
That was how she wasted money for form & acceptance fee. 😩

Few months later, this man proposed she quit her job since it’s not like she’s giving him the salary to share & do as he pleases. 🥲

In conclusion, my Mom encouraged the marriage scattering herself. 😂💔

How she go sponsor Pharmacy, a whole five years professional course which extended to nine years for my sister thanks to ASUU & not making Dispensing twice and not work???? 🥲
God forbid! 😆

My sister is about to become a PhD holder while being a lecturer too. 💪”
