House of reps investigates bribery allegations; invites EFCC chairman, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan
Following a resolution by the House of Representatives to investigate bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the House’s Joint Committees have formally invited the commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyode, to appear before them. According to Channels TV, this invitation was extended in a letter dated September 27, 2024.
The committee has requested that both the EFCC Chairman and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service attend a hearing on Monday, September 30, along with all relevant officers tied to the allegations.
These bribery claims emerged after a social media voice recording surfaced, featuring Idris Okuneye—commonly known as Bobrisky—who was sentenced to six months in prison earlier this year for abusing the naira.
The recording implied that Bobrisky paid N15 million to the EFCC to have money laundering charges against him dropped and suggested he was housed in a VIP facility rather than a regular prison.
Additionally, the House Committee is inviting Bobrisky and social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, who released the voice recording, to participate in the inquiry.
