Harry Kane scores on Bundesliga debut for Bayern Munich against Bremen

Harry Kane scored and assisted for Bayern Munich on his Bundesliga debut against Werder Bremen on Friday night.

Bayern’s record signing shone under the lights at Weserstadion as Thomas Tuchel’s men grabbed a 4-0 win over Bremen in their opening league game of the 2023-24 campaign.

Bayern’s record £100m signing impressed on his first start as it took Kane just four minutes to set up Leroy Sane for their opener with a clever through-ball to release the German forward.

Bayern controlled possession and should have added another goal to its lead, but neither Jamal Musiala’s nor Noussair Mazraoui’s promising long-range effort found the back of the net.

Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka had his hands full of work, as he had to defuse Leon Goretzka’s hammer from the distance and Kim Min-jae’s dangerous header from close range before halftime.

Bremen pushed forward after the restart, but it was the visitors who created clear-cut opportunities as Kingsley Coman rattled the woodwork with a turn shot from the edge of the box at the hour mark.

Harry Kane who joined for a league record £120 million last week to solve Bayern Munich’s scoring problems, slotted their second goal in the 74th minute after setting up Leroy Sane for a fourth-minute opener. The England captain was replaced ten minutes from time, after what appeared to be a bout of cramp.

Bayern wasn’t done with the scoring as Sane latched onto Thomas Muller’s square pass to make it three in the 90th minute before Mathys Tel rounded off the four-goal victory four minutes later.

Kane’s memorable Bundesliga debut made up for his first Bayern appearance last weekend after he came on as a second-half substitute in the 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup last week.

No fixture in Bundesliga history has been played more than Werder Bremen v Bayern Munich so it was an appropriate setting for Kane, who is England’s record goalscorer to start writing his own story in Germany.
