Guardiola hints at new striker signing after Alvarez departure
Pep Guardiola has hinted at the possibility of signing a new striker following Julian Alvarez’s imminent departure to Atletico Madrid.
Speaking on the matter, the Manchester City manager acknowledged the need for a backup to Erling Haaland, given the demanding schedule ahead.
“We will see until the end of the market if we really need a striker to be a back-up for Erling.
“Erling is not going to play all the games with the schedule we have ahead of us, so you have to think about it,” Guardiola stated.
Alvarez, who played a crucial role as a supporting striker to Haaland, is on the verge of signing for Atletico Madrid.
Reflecting on the Argentine forward’s exit, Guardiola said, “He [Alvarez] wants to leave and Atlético are a top club, so it’s ok.
“Good luck to Juli, we loved him, we won everything. I really wish him all the best.”
Alvarez has agreed to a contract with Atletico Madrid until 2029, with Manchester City set to receive €75 million plus €20 million in add-ons from the deal.
