Gianfranco Zola: ‘England still shocked by Man United’s sale of McTominay’
Gianfranco Zola has revealed that English fans and media are still baffled by Manchester United’s decision to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli.
McTominay, who joined the Serie A champions in a €30m deal, has impressed under coach Antonio Conte, contributing two goals and two assists in nine league appearances.
His performances have been so impactful that Conte shifted to a four-man defense to maximize the midfielder’s influence in central midfield.
“He is among the best signings of the last summer,” Zola told Corriere dello Sport.
“Here in England, they can’t understand how Man United could let him go. Perhaps it was tied to Financial Fair Play, but they haven’t digested it.”
McTominay picked up a minor ankle injury while on international duty with Scotland but is still expected to feature for Napoli in their upcoming Serie A clash against Roma.
Napoli currently lead the Serie A standings with 26 points from 12 games, while Roma languish in 12th place with just 13 points.
