Germany legend Thomas Müller retires from international football after 14 years
German international Thomas Müller has announced his retirement from international football, according to Bild.
The 34-year-old Bayern Munich forward ends his international career after limited appearances at Euro 2024.
He played only twice for Germany in the tournament, coming on as a substitute against Scotland and in extra time against Spain, where Germany was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Despite his limited role in the latest European Championships, Müller has had a highly successful career with the German national team.
He made his debut in March 2010 against Argentina and quickly made his mark by becoming the top scorer at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Müller’s career highlight came in 2014 when he played a key role in Germany’s World Cup win, where they defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final.
Over his international career, he earned 131 caps, scoring 45 goals and providing 41 assists.
Only Lothar Matthäus and Miroslav Klose have more appearances for Germany.
