Netherlands and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong will miss Euro 2024 due to an ankle injury that has not healed in time.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury following a collision with Fede Valverde during El Clasico nearly two months ago.
The news was confirmed on Monday night by both the Dutch national team and de Jong himself.
“It’s deeply disappointing not to play, but I’ll be supporting the team as a fan,” de Jong said.
The player’s ankle issues date back to an initial injury in September, followed by a recurrence in February, and this latest setback.
This season has been particularly challenging for de Jong]h, marking the first time injuries have significantly impacted his performance.
