Fraudster swaps old man’s ATM card, withdraws N1.8m from victim’s account
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has apprehended a fraudster identified as Babatunde Adekunle for allegedly swapping the ATM card of an old man and subsequently withdrawing a total of N1.8 million from the victim’s bank account.
The arrest was made known by the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Umar Mohammed, during a parade where six other suspects were also presented for their involvement in the theft of railway slippers.
According to Commandant Umar Mohammed, the 41-year-old suspect fraudulently exchanged his own ATM card with that of the old man at an ATM point in a bank located in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State.
After successfully swapping the cards, Adekunle allegedly proceeded to withdraw N1.8 million from the victim’s account.
Upon receiving the report, the NSCDC initiated an investigation, leading to the tracking and subsequent arrest of the suspect.
In addition to the arrest of Babatunde Adekunle, the NSCDC also apprehended six other suspects in possession of two trucks loaded with stolen railway slippers.
The suspects were identified as Yunusa Bello (41), Sanni Taminu (35), Sanusi Lawal (25), Alhaji Makeri (33), Lukman Sanni (32), and Olabode Johnson (41).
The arrests were made in Oloru, situated in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Commandant Umar Mohammed expressed his gratitude to the Kwara State government, traditional rulers, and the residents for their unwavering support.
He further assured the public that the NSCDC would continue to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property within the state.
