Lampard’s last game in charge was Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham United, which kept them second-bottom of the table on 15 points after 20 games, two points below the safety zone.

Everton has played poorly this season with their last win being a 3-0 win against Crystal Palace in October.

Lampard is now the sixth manager to be sacked by Everton’s owner Farhad Moshiri in almost seven years since becoming the majority shareholder.

Lampard was appointed by Everton in January 2022 after he managed Chelsea from 2019-21 and Derby County in the second tier in 2018-19.

The 44-year-old was sacked as Chelsea manager in January 2021, having returned to the west London club where he holds a goalscoring record.

Former Wolves and Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo, who is currently in charge at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, is among those being considered to replace Lampard. Sean Dyche, out of work since leaving Burnley at the end of last season, has also been tipped to take over at Goodison Park.
