Final-year female student found dead in her room as male companion battles for life

A final-year student at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), identified as Mbah Ezinne, has reportedly been found dead in her room.

The lifeless body of the Department of Anatomy student was discovered within her apartment on the morning of July 31, 2023, leaving her family, friends, and the university community in shock and grief.

Ezinne, a highly-regarded member of her church community, had been actively engaged in various aspects of university life.

She had attended a praise night alongside her friends on Friday, July 28, 2023. The gathering had disbanded around 4:00 am the following morning, as attendees dispersed to prepare for the upcoming Youth Day festivities scheduled for Sunday, July 30.

According to sources familiar with the matter, concern began to mount when Ezinne failed to show up at the church service on the morning of July 30.

Her friends and family attempted to reach her via phone, only to be met with an automated response indicating that her mobile line was unreachable

Alarmed by her sudden inaccessibility and worried about her safety, Ezinne’s brother, Stephen, along with several friends, embarked on a journey to her residence.

Upon arriving on Monday afternoon, July 31, they peered through the window and discovered Ezinne and a male companion, later identified as her coursemate, lying on the floor.

Faced with the grim scene, they wisely refrained from entering the apartment and sought the assistance of the local authorities.

Local law enforcement swiftly responded to the distress call. With the guidance of concerned neighbors, Stephen and the police managed to gain entry to the apartment.

Both Ezinne and her male companion were immediately rushed to the hospital, where medical professionals worked tirelessly to stabilize them.

Tragically, Ezinne was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The loss of this young, vibrant life has left a void in the hearts of all who knew her. Meanwhile, her male companion’s identity remains undisclosed, and he continues to fight for his life in the hospital.
