FIFA World Ranking: Nigeria’s Super Eagles slip to 40th Position
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been ranked 40th in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola world ranking released on Tuesday morning.
The Super Eagles dropped from their previous 39th position, even after their recent 6-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
The recent ranking saw Argentina maintaining their position as number one in the world, after securing a 1-0 victory over Ecuador and a 3-0 away win against Bolivia in the opening FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
At the second spot is France. Recall they recently lost 2-1 to Germany in a friendly match during the last international break.
The top five rankings remained unchanged from the last rankings. Brazil maintained their third position, England fourth, and Belgium fifth.
Meanwhile, Croatia, the Netherlands, and Portugal followed in the sixth, seventh, and eighth positions, respectively.
Italy dropped one place to ninth after a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia in a UEFA EURO 2024 qualifier. Spain completed the top ten teams.
At the continental level, Nigeria currently occupies the sixth position, behind Morocco (1st), Senegal (2nd), Tunisia (3rd), Algeria (4th), and Egypt (5th).
Others are Lesotho at 152nd. South Africa and Benin Republic are now ranked 65th and 94th, respectively. Zimbabwe maintained its 125th position, while Rwanda also stayed at 139th.
In addition, Saudi Arabia, slated to play the Super Eagles in a friendly match in October, made the 57th spot in the rankings.
