Ex-corps member who went viral in 2022 over his parade photo receives job offer, scholarship
Umar Ibrahim Umar, an ex-corps member who went viral at the NYSC parade ground in 2022, has received a job offer and a scholarship.
In 2022, Umar became an internet sensation when a photo of him shouting as a parade commander during his NYSC orientation camp went viral on social media.
Rumors circulated then that he had ventured into operating a POS shop, which Umar vehemently denied at the time.
Recently, Umar revealed to Legit.ng that he is set to embark on a new venture: starting a POS business.
Despite initial financial challenges, Umar shared that a successful crowdfunding campaign raised N352,000 to support his entrepreneurial endeavor.
The campaign gained traction swiftly, attracting attention from various quarters, including former minister Isa Pantami.
“We launched the fundraising campaign on 24th June, posted the story on all social media handles… and just within 24hrs, 80K was raised. It went to a total of 200K+ on the 2nd day. And the 3rd day, 352K was the sum…. that was the day Prof. Isah Ali Pantami quoted the campaign on X App, asking me to contact him privately,” Umar told Legit.
According to Umar, Prof. Isa Pantami not only supported his business idea but also offered him a job and mentorship to support his education.
Additionally, Umar revealed that he had been given a fully funded scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies at any public university in Nigeria.
“2ndly, a fully funded postgraduate scholarship in any public university within Nigeria to forward my studies. And lastly, he linked me to the MD, Alliance Power Generation Company Ltd, to be trained on solar installations, maintenance, etc which will help me pursue my dreams in renewable energy, “ he added.
